Viaţa politică interbelică în judeţul Tutova

  • Subiect: The great union in 1918 and the reforms between 1918 and 1923 had an important contribution to the revitalization of the political life in Romania. The introduction of the universal vote for men and the agrarian reform opened new perspectives for the Romanian society. Several parties asserted an important position on the political scene: The National Liberal Party, The NationalPeasants’ Party, The People’s Party, The Nationalist Democrat Party, The National Christian Party. These parties ruled the country at different times. There were parties of the Hungarian, German and Jewish minorities, but also extremist parties like the Communist Party (founded in 1921) and the Iron Guard (which became illegal in 1933, 1938, 1941). In Bârlad, there were local branches of the central political groups and parties, which designated their candidates for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies at the parliamentary elections, and for the positions of county and local councilman at the communal elections respectively. The disintegration of the political forces, directed by King Carol the 2nd,will lead to the failure of the parliamentary elections on the 25th of November 1937, leading the way to the instauration of the royal authoritarian regime (February 10th 1938- September 6th 1940).
