Procesul şi execuţia mareşalului. 70 de ani

  • Subiect: The trial of marshal Ion Antonescu and his main collaborators took place/occurred in front of the People’s Court in Bucharest between the 6th and 17th of May 1946. Several things stand out from the charges against them: the economic and military vassalage of the country to Nazi Germany, the adherence to the Axis (September 23rd 1940), the contribution to the aggression against the Soviet Union (June 22nd 1941- August 23rd 1944) and the extermination of the population from the occupied territories. Under these accusations of war crimes, according to the Sentence no. 17 of the People’s Court, marshal Ion Antonescu, the leader of the Romanian state, and his collaborators- MihaiAntonescu, vice prime-minister, Professor Gheorghe Alexianu, the governor of Transnistria and general C.Z. Vasiliu- were sentenced to death and executed on June 1st 1946. The controversial personality of marshal Ion Antonescu cannot be analyzed except in the context of his day and age, with its lights and shadows. He can’t be taken out of the Romanian history.
