Conciliul de la Florenţa în istoriografia românească veche

  • Subiect: Historiographs of the 15th-18th centuries preserve some kind of fidelity to the image of the Eighth Council of Florence (1438 – 1439), an image that is also in line with the established church tradition. Thus this fact, the Romanian historyographs, irrespective of the sources they are inspired (Byzantine or Western), and regardless of which culture they attach to, are almost without exception in traditional positions. But, over the centuries, however, the attitude towards the Florentine Council is enriched with new valences determined by the diversification of knowledge and the widening of the historical framework. One of these attitudes is the intentionally misplacement of this council during the reign of Alexander the Good (1400 – 1432), made in order to raise the prestige of the voivode by associating with the participation in a prestigious international event. By referring to the Florentine Council, chroniclers give weight and truth to myths and traditions, place them in a real historical context, and present them to the audience as undeniable information.
