Among the many heroes from Bârlad the First World War: general Gheorghe Naumescu - „the hero of the Prunaru Charge”( 15/28 November 1916), major Grigore Ignat – the martyr of Mărăşeşti (1917), lt.col. Corneliu Popeea – the martyr of Oituz (1917), major Petre Caracaş (1917), caporal-grenadier Constantin Muşat (1917).
