Biserica Fundenii Doamnei un strălucit monument al epocii brâcoveneşti

  • Subiect: The Fundenii Doamnei quarter lies at the Eastern extreme part of Bucharest. The estate of this … village belonged for decades to the Great Spathar Mihai Cantacuzino, uncle of the famous ruler Constantin Brâncoveanu. In 1699, the owner built the church along with the other constructions of his residence. The church alone bas remained from the former architectural assembly, and it is considered one of Bucharest's most valuable monuments. The church bas a typically orthodox "triconch" plan with a widened narthex and presents a vast stucco-made decorative program influenced or executed by Oriental craftsmen. The decoration renders palaces, a fountain, pots with flowers and fruit, geometrical motifs with obvious similitudes with the Constantinopolitan baroque. At present, the church is still used as a Christian Orthodox ritual building, where sermons are performed.
