  • Subiect: THE EARTH BURGUS-TYPE FORTRESS, ATTACHED TO THE ROMAN DITCH ANO VALLUM, DISCOVERED AT SUPURU DE SUS, DEALUL ŞOARECELUI/MOUSE HILL (SATU MARE COUNTY) In Barbaricum, 50 km West from the well-known limes porolissensis, at the exit of the Crasna river valley, towards the Western Hills in the area of the Supuru de Sus village (Satu Mare County), there has been discovered a vallum, which has its ditch oriented to West, against the enemy who came from the pannonian fields. Made by the romans on the Meses Mountains, the limes marked the North-Western limit of the roman province Dacia Porolissensis. The vallum and the ditch, blocked and controlled the access to the valleys of Crasna and Zalau rivers, the way towards the Roman province Dacia, the limes porolissensis and the roman city from Porolissum. Until now this earth vallum das been identified on a distance of 6 km, but the research is still continuing. The vallum has been searched by 8 trenches. The ditch is approximately 2-2, 5 m deep, and 3, 5-4 m wide, but the vallum is very flattened because of the early agricultural activities. So, the vallum is 4-5 m wide at the base. The archaeological research identified on the fields near the village Supuru de Sus, by the point Dealul Soarecelui (Mouse Hill), at the Western part of the vallum a rectangular fortress attached, making common body with it (the vallum). The fortress ditch and the earth valium belongs to the construction type murus caespititius, on the long side of the fortress being 210 m long and 140 m width.
