Participarea unităţilor Ardelene la campania Armatei Romane din 1919

  • Subiect: The participation of the units from Ardeal in the Romanian army campaign from 1919 The military units first formed by Transylvanian volunteers and next conscripted from locals belonging of liberated areas, has a significant involvement in all stages of the Romanian Army operations through the 1919 - year campaign, like the Romanian territory clearing and securing the line on Tisa river, defensive battle near the river line and next the Tisa river crossing, defeated of the Hungarian Army, fall of the Bella Kun’s communist regime and the Budapest city occupation. If the first units were equipped with material captured from the disbanded Austro-Hungarian Army depots or abandoned by the retreating German troops, subsequently, at the 16tyh, 18th, 20th and 21st Transylvanian infantry divisions, their equipment was assured by the High Command of the Transylvanian Army (HQ in Sibiu city) from the Romanian Kingdom depots, partial French material and, partial from the huge depots left behind by the Russian troops withdrawn from Moldavia. These units, manned with many Romanian officers from the former Austro-Hungarian Imperial Army, having a good military knowledge level and training, were completed with strong support sub-units (cavalry, sappers, artillery) and complete services. They had a good fighting power doubled by a good discipline and high morale. These qualities will be exposed in the territory liberation fights, but especially in fierce defensive battles on the Tisa river, when the 16th and 18th divisions endured the shock of the Hungarian offensive. The work-paper aims to present few aspects regarding the structure, equipment and operational activity in the campaign of these units.
