  • Subiect: Medieval swords discovered in Covasna County In the past 150 years at the territory of modern Covasna county 18 swords were appeared, 16 of which are in the collections of various museums in the region. Chronologically these swords are divided into three categories: swords from the first half of the 13th century (2 pcs.), those used in the period between the middle of the 13th century and the second of the 14th century (9 pcs.) and swords specific to the last decades of the 14th century and the first decades of the 15th century (5 pcs). Because some of them have appeared besides human bones, they are considered to have appeared that they are findings from burials with weapons, which can regard as unique for the late Middle Age period. Newer researches have come to challenge this assumption, leading to the conclusion that the fact that almost all the specimen were discovered at a relatively large distance from the settlements, these weapons came into the ground with the equipment of warriors who fled in forests and perished of wounds, in the time of the military conflicts that occurred in the area during the 13th century respectively the first decades of the 15th century.
