Dr. Aurel Vlad şi formarea grupului neoactivist de la Orăştie

  • Subiect: The study is meant to be a reconstitution of the moment and conditions under which the neo-activist group from Orăştie was founded, and the role that Aurel Vlad played during this approach. As Aurel Vlad has been involved in the Romanian political life in Transylvania since he was a student, when he made acquaintance with attorney Fr. Hossu Longin who was the leader of a moderate faction, in his attempt to solve the existing crisis within P.N.R. Aurel Vlad's activity during the last years of the 19th century brought him an important leading position within the party, having Al. Vaida Voevod and I. Maniu as colleagues. This position, doubled by that of manager of one of the most important Romanian banks ("Ardeleana"), allowed him to begin a very complex action, involving people that belonged to the young generation: Vaida Voevod, A. Comşa, Il. Chendi etc. This new group militated to put P.N.R. into action and to revitalize the political formation of the Romanians living in Transylvania, throughout getting closer to the electors. In order to have support in their action that group of young people edited a newspaper of their own entitled "Libertatea" ("The Freedom"). The group's activity had a special echo within the Romanian public opinion, especially after Aurel Vlad had been elected as deputy of Dobra circumscription.
