Aspecte privind preluarea Tribunalului Satu Mare în anul 1919

  • Subiect: Aspects regarding the taking over the Satu Mare court in 1919 The process of overtaking the Hungarian administrative rule was begun by the Board of Governors (Consiliul Dirigent) in 1919, this undertaking has caused many problems in several cities and localities in Transylvania. On the 23rd of April 1919, almost every last one of the judges, prosecutors and clerks (131 persons) from the Satu Mare Law Court, has sworn allegiance and has signed a list of declaration in which they acknowledged to become clerks of the Romanian Kingdom; however, some eventually have changed their minds despite their initial decision. When the moment has come to take an oath, many of the clerks have refused. This comes as no surprise it was a period of chaos and widespread misinformation filled with false news, and rumors, it was a transitory period for many and a hostile environment which inherently, has led to the resignation from the initial idea of taking an oath to serve for the Romanian Kingdom, to accept the rule of the Board of Governors and to consequently serve under the ruling of king Ferdinand. Many of the Hungarian elites, have considered these administrative entities and bodies as outright illegal organs on their territory at the time. In Satu Mare therefore, 15 judges and one chief clerk from the Law Court have refused to accept the new reality and to take an oath in this regard to serve the new regime. They were threatened therefore with expulsion from the city of Satu Mare. In the end, despite all the initial hostility and opposition from the existing clerks from the local institute of justice, the newly installed authorities despite facing challenges, have managed to function and serve justice for the people of the city during those difficult times.
