Ioan Buteanu - apărător al Zarandului în Revoluţia de la la 1848

  • Subiect: Ioan Buteanu – Defender of Zarand in the Revolution from 1848 The maintaining of Zarand under the Romanian revolutionaries' control made up a vital necessity for Apuseni mountains defense. His fall meant opening of the penetration ways to Abrud and Câmpeni, the center of the Romanian revolution defense. For the defense of Zarand was necessary a strong, firm and capable commander, qualities which the barrister Ioan Buteanu gathered himself. The stern defeat of tribunes: Aviron Telechi, Alexandru Chendi and Ioan Nemes, -noblemen in Zarand, on November 8th 1848, had caused the departure of the prefect Ioan Buteanu, who was close to Aiud, to Zarand where he had arrived on November 13th 1848. Ioan Buteanu helped at the defense organization of Zarand, settled himself in defense at Buceş. In the spring of 1849, Ioan Buteanu proved to the be best among the Romanian leaders in the negotiations with Ioan Dragoş. Buteanu was caught by the major Hatvany at Abrud and hang on May 23rd 1849, at Iosăşel. in the Zarand Land which he defended with so courageously.
