Statuia lui Alexandru Ioan Cuza de la Craiova

  • Subiect: Alexandru Ioan Cuza statue from Craiova Comparing with its „sister” from Iasi, the statue from Craiova of the Domnitor Cuza had a more agitated life, this fact offering to the historians a generous field of research. Even more than a century is running out since its realization, still there are many uncertainties, confusing data and white spots in the history of the statue. How the monument influenced the life of the town and how the political influences acted on the statue, these are other directions and their study could bring a better contribution to its history. Let’s think only to the fact that local authorities needed more than 25 years to place the statue in one of the town squares – while in Iasi a new square was built specially for this purpose – and then, without any remorse, they used the monument for their political interests, organizing „national” manifestations dedicated to the Day of the Unification in front of the statue. We hope that upcoming research will turn to profit the information from the local mass media and archive in order to know better the history of this statue.
