Preserving and Promoting Local History Through Educational Activities

  • Subiect: This short article analyses the benefits of learning local history in the contemporary society. Rethinking the curriculum and creating an optional syllabus represent ways which can be achieved. lt is also important to recognize the quality of these educational activities and to use the model of the good practices in this sense. Starting from the fact that the study of the Communist regime is very popular for young people, we propose a optional entitled: „A recent history of the city of Drobeta Turnu Severin- The period of the Communist regime", which can be adapted for high school in any county from Romania. Considering the fact that the students choose optional syllabus between many options, the teacher-student relationship is very important. The teacher has to become a facilitator of learning, organizes and makes available resources, influence pupils' motivation and peiformance. using modern strategies for learning and assessment (project, portfolio) to lay the foundation of building up a lifelong education.
