lntermarium, Federalism and Cooperation 1918-1922

  • Subiect: The First World War changed Europe: the fall of the Russian, German, and Austro-Hungarian empires provided the opportunity for the Kingdom of Romania to reconsider its borders, and for the polish people to re-establish a polish state. The head of the polish state, Jozef Pilsudski, strived to establish Poland as a regional ruler. To do that he conceived the lntermarium. The article tries to clarify the lntermarium term and how it was used by the historians and statesmen. Through Intermarium, Jozef Pilsudski, sought to fu/fii his vison about the future and the role of Poland in Europe. Primarily, lntermarium was a federal program based on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Later, Jozef Pilsudski reshaped the lntermarium's configuration and proposed a cooperation project, that failed entirely. Also, the article presents the Roman ian vision on fi/ling the vacuum of power between Russia and Germany.
