  • TITLU în română: Inscripţiile în limba greacă din cimitirul maritim din oraşul Sulina: o sursă insuficient exploatată pentnt investigarea comunităţii elene locale
  • Subiect: Multiple local legends appeared became of the lack of accurate translations of the Greek epitaphs in the maritime cemetery of Sulina. The present paper aims to enlighten the inscriprions of the Greek population, based of the results of in situ researches done between 2017 and 2019, to register the epitaphs, for a subsequent analysis of the decoded characteristics and symbols, to transliterate and translate them. The epitaphs prevalently originate from the golden age of Sulina harbour, during the Danube Commision presence in the region. The research will be focused on those funerary monuments belonging to the Greecks, written in Greek alphabet (between 1866 and 1987), without considering the ones writen in Latin alphabet, a confirmation of the decrease in the number of Greeks in Sulina and of the weakening of their contact with their native land and other Greck spcakers. The paper aims to highlight the importance of the epithaps for the local Greek community. Among the analysed inscriprions there are versified inscriptions of considerable extent, as well as small inscriprions, placed on very imposing monuments emphasizing the domination of an ethnic group who possessed the most influential commercial and maritime positions.
