Aspecte privind cunoaşterea şi folosirea scrisului la Porolissum

  • Subiect: ASPECTS CONCERNING THE AWARENESS AND USE OF WRITING IN POROLISSUM Even though it is not doubtful the amount of the Roman culture and civilisation from the provinces of the Roman Empire, it is not homogeneous, having certain aspects which are different, creating local peculiarities. We believe that is interesting to pursue this phenomenon in a province which was, unlike other provinces, a “relatively” short period under Roman reign. One of the elements which reflect the amount of the expansion of the Roman culture in the provinces is the use of the Latin language and, implicitly, the amount of writing use in various social environments. For the moment, we want to pursue, very shortly, just the last aspect regarding Porolissum: the use of writing. Directly connected to Porolissum, for the analysis of this aspect, we can only rely on the information given by the archaeological material found on accidental discoveries and archaeological diggings. According to the proposed theme, there were under our attention the following aspects and piece categories: I. Writing instruments a. Stilus b. Ink pots c. Pens, brushes d. Punchers (signaculum) e. Craftsman markings II. Writing holders a. Organic material b. Inorganic material b.1 Teguls marked in italic writing b.2 Pottery marked in italic writing b.3 Metal pieces having inscriptions b.4 Others III. Other objects: Seal capsules Taken one by one, and briefly analysed it is created a very suggestive picture regarding the proposed theme, proving that the use of writing in Porolissum was an ordinary fenomenon, spread throughout the population.
