Iosif Stalin în reprezentările filatelice româneşti

  • Subiect: Ever since the appearance of postage stamps in the first half of the 19th century, they have been seen, beyond the practical side, as potential "tools" carrying visual messages, reaching, in a short period of time, to be included in the gear of disseminating the ideas of different political regimes, regardless of their orientation. The dictatorial regimes of the 20th century, regardless of the geographical area, recognized in postage stamps the potential of penetration and disenchantment, among the population, of visual propagandistic messages. From the point of view of the effectiveness of this means of visual transmission of some symbols or images of some political leaders, it is impossible, today, to quantify, the attempt of such an approach can be considered... an extravagance doomed to failure. However, political regimes did not hesitate to use philately for the purpose of preaching "noble ideals", dictatorial regimes can be considered as being among the most effective in this direction (if we think about the number of issues and postage stamps issued), regardless of the topics covered. As far as we are concerned, from the multitude of philatelic issues issued by the communist power in Bucharest, after the forced abdication of King Michael, in this article we have submitted to the attention of historians, but also to the general public, a number of five stamps (to begin with), from as many philatelic issues, which have Joseph Visarionovici Stalin as the subject of the propaganda message, covering the time interval between the years 1949-1952. Beyond a brief description for each stamp, and a timid interpretation of their visual message, is important, from our point of view, as in the analysis and interpretation of the Romanian communist propaganda phenomenon (and not only), to take into account philately, thus trying to understand its role, purpose and place in the gear of political communications.
