Atitudinea lui Iuliu Maniu faţă de regimul totalitar instalat de regele Carol al II-lea (1938-1939)

  • Subiect: Iuliu Maniu and the Totalitarian regime of Carol the 2nd (1938 – 1939)) The December 1937 elections marked the quasi- democratic political regime in Romania. Carol II designated Octavian Goga as head of the government (Goga's National - Christian Party had obtained only 9,15 percent of all votes). The King also appointed to this government several members of the centrist group of the National Peasant Party headed by Armand Călinescu. Iuliu Maniu accepted the installation of the royal dictators upon February 10, 1938. The King Carol II dissolved together with the other political parties on March 30 1938, the National Peasant Party continued its activity within much more restricted limits. Alli those who had accepted among them having been Mihai Ralea, Petre Andrei, Mihai Ghelmengeanu. Iuliu Maniu sent repeated memorials to the King and to the government protesting against the antidemocratic measures taken by the regime sponsored by Carol II.
