Preotul greco-catolic Ioan Galu, 1829-1894

  • Subiect: The Archpriest Ioan Galu The Archpriest loan Galu was one of the most important ministers in Sălaj Country in the 19th century. He graduated the University of Vienna and dedicated all his entire life to the prosperity of the Romanians living in Silvania, working as a teacher at the Minorities Gymnazium in the town of Simleui-Silvaniei, and as a priest in the village of Chiesd and Supuru de Sus. He asserted himself as a first rank personality of the national movement in Sălaj Country due to his abilities to organize meeting and reunions when the Romanians were defending their religion education system and the national Language. He participated in all events initiated by the Romanian population Living in Transylvania between 1892-1894, being a member of the delegation Which presented the Memorandum to the authorities in Vienna, upholding the cause of the Memorandum, mobilizing the people living in the country of Tasnad-Carei. Being a militant priest, he was an example for the generations to come.
