Partidul Naţional Român din Transilvania şi Banat 130 ani de la întemeierea sa

  • Subiect: The National Romanian Party of Transylvania and Banat 130 Years from its Founding At the beginning of 1869, the National Romanian Party of Banat (by the Timisoara conference, on 7th February) and the National Romanian Party of historic Transylvania (the former Great Principality of Transylvania; the conference took place at Miercurea Sibiului on 7-8 March) were setup. According to their programs, they militated in favor of fundamental national rights of the Romanians, against the Austrian - Hungarian dualism which was oppressing the peoples in the empire in a natural way, the two parties developed towards their unification, which took place at the Sibiu conference, on 12-14 May 1881 Up to 1905, the N.R.P. adopted the tactics of boycotting the political system, by not participating at the elections (the "passivism") a.s.o. The mast important action was that of elaborating the Great Memorandum of the Transylvanian Romanians, which was handed over to the emperor Franz Iosef on May 1892, but it was not accepted by the latter and a law suit against the KR.P. leaders - the authors of the document - followed, suit tried in Cluj on May J 894. These facts triggered an ample mass movement all over Transylvania, a considerable strengthening of solidarity links of the independent Old Kingdom of Romania, with its conational in Transylvania, as well as an important European echo in support of the Romanian cause.
