Observaţii asupra unor efigii imperiale tomitane din vremea Severinilor / Observations About Some Imperial Effigies, on the Tomis Coins, from the Severan Period

  • Subiect: This short material presents two imperial effigies from a few provincial monetary issues struck at Tomis, in the times of the Severan dynasty. After analyzing the effigy of Emperor Septimius Severus (from a 2 assaria issue – Varbanov no. 4851) and a radiate effigy of Caracalla Augustus (from a few 4 assaria issues) it was concluded that the mint from Tomis did not receive models of the imperial effigies from a Roman official authority. This provincial mint simply reproduced on coins, for imaging compliance (it had an important political role), the effigies of the emperors after official coins in circulation.
