Elite locale şi centre de putere în Banat (sfârşitul secolului al IX-lea - începutul secolului al XI-lea)

  • Subiect: LOCAL ELITES AND CENTRES OF POWER IN BANAT (LATE IXth – EARLY XIth CENTURIES) Between the fall of the Second Avar Khaganate, at the beginning of the 9th century and the arrival of the Hungarians and their satellites in the 30’s of the 10th century, the local society from the area between Mureş and Tisza rivers, the Danube and the Carpathians experienced some significant social and political changes. Both written sources and numismatic or archaeological information were taken into account and corroborated in order to identify some possible centres of power and local elites, and to detect their specific features too. Some changes which can be registered especially when analyzing the funerary discoveries took place starting with the fourth decade of the 10th century, due to the penetration, even if sporadic, of some groups of population from Pannonia into the plains areas of the Banat. The above mentioned changes indicate the emergence of new local elite with rather military character. The eastern mountain region, belonging to the First Bulgarian Czardom, did not experience major changes, at least from this point of view.
