Armand Călinescu - avatarul unui simbol

  • Subiect: Armand Călinescu - The Avatar of a Symbol Armand Calinescu was the Prime Minister of Romania in a troubled period in the history of the country (7 March 1939 – 21 September 1939), being murdered by a band of Legionnaires in Bucharest in the car he was traveling with. Local authorities in Pitesti, hometown of the former Prime Minister, imposed an administrative “offertory” and through this money was raised to build a monument in his honor in this town. However, the bust was made using Ministry of Interior money, but was not unveiled, as after the Legionnaires came to power it was seized by the Army and finally track of it was lost. Also, under the pretext of misappropriation, the Legionnaires seized all personal property that Armand Calinescu had in Ciupa (today Ratesti commune) and Ciomagesti from Arges County.
