Fenomenul prostituţiei în Tîrgu-Mureş între anii 1926-1932

  • Subiect: Through the ages prostitutes have been shunned and reviled by society, but there were little interest on their general life condition. Studying the police records of Târgu-Mureş in 1926-1932, one can realize why the prostitutes chose this way to live and what their familial background was. Usually they were born in pour families, and worked as housemaids. Several of them were analphabets. Many of them were orphans. Most of the prostitutes worked legally as hotel-maids or cashiers but due to their financial condition they also sold their body. Only from year 1930 appeared the private prostitutes. They worked for their own, without joining a brothel or having any other profession. The police record tells us also about the prostitutes' health condition. There were recorded why, how many time and how long the prostitutes stayed in hospitals. The most frequent sexually transmitted diseases were gonorrhea and syphilis. All of them got infected with one of these for several occasions.
