Ion Ignaton - promotor al vieţii muzicale hunedorene

  • Subiect: Among those who fought for a Romanian composer school, for a Romanian musical criticism, musical science and folklore science, the Hunedoara born Ion Ignaton has his own well established and acknowledged place. He studied at the Orthodox gymnasium in Brad and in the "Andrei Şaguna" secondary school in Braşov, where he was taught by the well-known professor Gheorghe Dima. In 1912 he majored in theology in Sibiu, and (in 1920) the harmony music theory and counterpoint in the University of Cluj. He was mainly a folklore researcher. He collected and adapted folk music, he played and conducted folklore creations. In 1919, he founded the "Societatea de cântări", and in 1943 he contributed to the foundation of the "Gheorghe Dima" Music and Drama Conservator in Deva.
