Conştiinţa naţională şi acţiunea românilor reflectată în presa sălăjană la începutul secolului al XX-lea

  • Subiect: Our study points out the question of the national consciousness and Romanian activity from the territories on the north-western part of nowadays Romania, which - at the end of the last century and up to 1918 - had been outside of the national borders, part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Beginning with the year 1904, the printing of the first Romanian gazette from the north-western part of the country, entitled "Gazeta de Duminecă" (Sunday Gazette) started. The printing of some new newspapers was necessary because the denationalization policy practiced by the Hungarians from Transylvania had forbidden the developing of the Romanian schools (Romanian was the language of the main part of the inhabitants, fact that could be corrected partially through press). In the present study we tried to point out how much the culturalizing and education processes of the Romanian population from north Transylvania have been illustrated in the newspapers and if there was a link between the Romanian leaders and the village inhabitants. The gazettes that have been our studying materials were: "Gazeta de Duminecă" – which appeared in the period before war, between 1904-1911; , "Şcoala noastră" (Our School) – 1924-1940; "Meseşul" - 1925-1931; "Gazeta Sălajului" (Sălaj County Gazette) - 1936-1938 - and one number of "Ţara Silvanei" (Silvania Country) - 1940 - and magazines that appeared in the between wars period. Generally, these magazines declared themselves of culture and information, having one aim - national education of people without any politics. The personalities who have published in the gazette tried to educate and they saw very quickly which were the new dangerous situations, from eastward, which threatened the national security: Bolshevism, collectivism and destroying the national believes. They point out the ways in which the Romanians must fight to keep their national being and its cultural heritage.
