Audiatur et altera pars. Mulţimea clădită în jurul particulei fundamentale de construcţie pot: pot-capul

  • Subiect: Summary: Hundreds of words of the Romanian language have etymologies established back in the XIXth century by scholars belonging to the Panslavist movement that reflect their views in line with the then prevalent political convictions. The validity of such etymologies has not been verified in spite of serious flaws. This article concentrates on the word potcap, noun meaning eclesiastical cap (bonnet) in Romanian, and shows that the "Slavic" origin is impossible. Potcap is built with morphemes, small meaningful units, that have clear significance only in Romanian. Potcoava and potlog belong to the same group as potcap.
