Buzăul - centru comercial şi cultural al Ţării Româneşti

  • Subiect: Buzău - commercial and cultural centre of Wallachia Like any other medieval town, Buzau sets itself apart by its two defining features, namely those of being a cultural and a commercial centre. I personally consider that its way to the modern times can be traced as back as the Brancoveanu age, by this being a part of the profound movement of the Romanian economica! and cultural assertion of the area outside the Carpathians range from the turn of the l 8th century. The first medieval documentary certification of the town, Voivode Dan II' s royal charter of 30th January 1431, points out its commercial function, being mentioned as a borough and customs point alongside other „boroughs and customs points" of Wallachia. Here we must also emphasize the role of the great fair of Dragaica, which brought together the villagers from the mountains and those from the plains in the second half of every June.
