Catagrafia schitului Poiana Mărului întocmită la 29 noiembrie 1862

  • Subiect: An inventory of Poiana Mărului hermitage on November 29, 1862 According to this document, the hermitage possessed over 20 buildings in 1862: 2 churches, one belfry, 12 groups of cells with a varied number of rooms ( 1-17), a guest-house, a bakery, stables, a smithy, warehouses and an oil press. The majority of these structures were built of fir-wood, and only occasionally of oak-wood, which indicates that the hermitage lay in the contact area between resinous and leafy forest belts. Many buildings were old, others looked better. Also, most of the inside objects were made of fir-wood. The hermitage was rich in silverware, many items being gilded, others were decorated with different precious stones. Many items were made of cypress wood. The Russian influence was visible especially among religious books and in iconography (it was the portrait of the Russian Emperor Nicholas I and not of a Romanian voivode that hung in the guest-room!). The hermitage also held a few properties in the old counties of Râmnicu Sărat and Buzău, with farmlands, vineyards, orchards, wine-cellars, mills, etc.
