Bessarabia in Romanian-Soviet relations (1976-1978)

  • TITLU în română: Basarabia în relaţiile româno-sovietice în anii (1970-1985)
  • Subiect: The Romanian-Soviet differences regarding the history of Bessarabia (the Russian annexation in 1812, the union with Romania in 1918, the second Russian annexation in 1940) and the existence of a so-called Moldavian nation and language different from the Romanian nation and language, point of view encouraged by the Soviet propaganda, are being followed in a historiographical perspective. The available sources show that the positions of Romanian historians, clearly controlled by the Romanian Communist Party, were perceived by Moscow as Romania's territorial demands against the Soviet Union. ln June 1976, Nicolae Ceauşescu made an official statement, according to which Romania did not have any territorial claims against the Eastern neighbor, but still, the "historiographical war" continued.
