Piese de prestigiu din piatră şlefuită din neoliticul şi eneoliticul timpuriu în nord-vestul României

  • Subiect: Prestige polished stone pieces from Neolithic and early Eneolithic in north-western Romania In this study we will discuss six long polished stone pieces discovered in sites that cover the Neolithic and early Eneolithic periods in north-western Romania. From the early Neolithic site of Zăuan- Dambul Cimitirului (Sălaj county) comes an axe of 28,5 centimeters long with an unsharpened cutting edge made of sandstone. In the late Neolithic site of Porţ – Corău (Sălaj county) that belonged to a community specialised in polished stone tools processing, an axe of 24, a chiesel of 14,5 and an adze of 13,5 centimetres long were found. Partially contemporary and belonging to the same cultural area, the site of Tăşad – Dealul Cetăţuia (Bihor county) gave us a 36 centimeters long adze splitted in three pieces placed in a child's grave. The latest item, found in the early Eneolithic site of Cheşereu- Osvath tag, is a 48 centimetres long adze, being the biggest polished stone piece found and published so far. They are all special artefacts that fall in the prestige category as it has been defined after the western european discoveries. The chisel and the adze from Porţ may show the prestige of the stone artisan in terms of skill. We consider that using the term of maces is not appropriate since all these pieces have the shape of the regular stone tools and no military or political elites existed yet.
