Aspecte privind guvernarea Ion I. C. Brătianu (1914-1916) şi pregătirea de război a României

  • Subiect: Aspects regarding the governing of the Ion I.C. Brătianu (1914-1916) and war preparations of Romania The measures adopted in the planning of war preparations of România by Ion I. C. Brătianu government in the two years of neutrality were intense, the statistical data of the Romanian army endowment in 1914 bearing witness in this regard, compared to those in August 1916, at the entry of our country in the War of National Integration. It is true that, in spite of the feverish activity of the government, in 1916 the stage of preparation of our country for a modern war was incomplete, a situation generated by multiple factors, both internal and especially external. From the external ones, we note here the lack of an arms industry able to cover the needs of the Romanian army, the modest material resources of our country, considering the mainly agricultural character of our economy, the incompetence of some public servants and many unrighteous businesses made at the expense of the endowment of the army during 1914-1916. With regard to the external factors, we mention that the Brătianu government concluded important delivery contracts of war material with the Entente states during 1914-1915, especially with France and Italy, but they honoured their commitments late or even not at all for some of them.
