  • Subiect: The digital radiological research applied to the icons on wood restored through the project MUSEIKON. A new museum of icons revives a restored historic building in Alba Iulia The scientific investigations of heritage assets before of the restoration interventions is a mandatory step and always extremely necessary. Of course, in present we have an extremely wide range of methods and means by which the artifacts of various kinds can be analyzed to determine the state of conservation, detailed knowledge of the materials and, ultimately, to select suitable methods of intervention. Lately, the emphasis is heavily on non-destructive methods or minimum samples of matter and the digital radiography is one of them. In fact, radiography of the heritage assets through traditional means is already a method that has a history of over 100 years, which has proved its usefulness. Modern practice, digital, is one of the methods that make up the range of investigations that we use routinely. This paper aims to present some cases of investigation of the icons on wood with the digital radiography method. Restoration interventions were made in the MUSEIKON project.
