Some Aspects Regarding Two Romanian Ethnic Groups in Interwar Yugoslavia

  • Subiect: The article focuses on the situation of the so-called Danube Romanians populating the Western Banat and Crain. In presents the tendency of the Serbian/Yugoslav authorities to call he Romanians Wallachians, to change certain toponyms and demographic statistics, as well as the actions of the Romanians for defending their cultural, religious and political rights. In 1926, there was organized the first Romanian National Congress of the Serbian Timoc community, submilling a memorandum to the Romanian govemment. The Romanian authorities were noiable to offer full support lest it might jeopardize the good neighboring relations with Yugoslavia, an important regional ally. The article also presents briefly the changing attitude of the Romanian authorities dwing World War II and the Communist period.
