Geologie şi arheologie la Porolissum

  • Subiect: Geology and archaeology at Porolissum I. Petrography presumptions concerning the identification of raw materials sources for the archeologic vestiges of the Porolissum area The present paper is the first of a series which is going to present the results of an interdisciplinary study concerning the vast archaeological treasure of the Dacian- Roman complex Porolissum. Based on the mineralogical-petrographically similarities, investigated with some specific analytical techniques, we intend to outline possible correlations between the sources (rocks and minerals) and the large range of archaeological, vestiges (buildings, inscriptions, stone and metal objects for various purposes, jewelry, pottery). In the attempt of establishing the autochthony/allochthon of the source-material we considered that the area of interest according to the technological possibilities of the historical moment is represented by the eastern part of the Simleu Basin, between the Someş Valley and Meseş Mts. in the E, SE respectively and a N- S alignment crossing the crystalline island" of Şimleu Silvaniei. Within this area, the types of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks are presented, in a chronological roader (fig. I). Finally, we introduce in a synthetic table, the main localities near which appear rocks with physical-mechanical characteristics that recommend them as possible ancient sources, as well as the most probable way of using them.
