Local Autonomy versus State Centralization? Opinions, Debates, First Steps to the Administrative Unification of Greater Romania, 1918-1920

  • TITLU în română: Centralizare sau autonomie locală? Opinii, dezbateri, primi paşi spre unificarea administrativă a României Mari, 1918-1920
  • Subiect: This study aims to present and analyze the main debates and discussions about administrative unification and the Center-Provinces relationship, starting with the Union of Bessarabia with Romania (27th of March/9th of April 1918) and finishing with the dissolution of the autonomous provincial entities (4th of April 1920). These debates, issued in Transylvania, Bessarabia, Bucovina and Old Kingdom of Romania after the end of World War I concern the tendencies regarding the amount of local autonomy and administrative decentralization in Greater Romania or the assignment of Old Kingdom civil functionaries in the administrations of the other provinces. We are interested in the tensions that arase between the two administrative directions: decentralization and local autonomy versus centralization.
