Asediul Vienei din 1683 oglindit în câteva manuscrise românesti si străine

  • Subiect: The author tries to make known some data as regards several Romanian and foreign manuscripts, relating to the Vienna siege, preserved in the Romanian archives, that were partly signaled by some scholars but not yet treated in a special study. Three of the Romanian manuscripts are distinct translations of the learned Greek Ieremia Cacavela's works. They belong to many transcribers of the Romanian provinces and dated from the 18th century. The three manuscripts offer information concerning the preliminaries of the war between the Ottoman Empire and the Saint League as well as the beginning, the development and the end of the Vienna siege in 1683. A fourth manuscript is part and parcel of a Serbian chronicle drown up în Romanian. It includes, among other interesting data, some commentaries on the effects of this event upon the European policy, particularly till 1686. From among foreign manuscripts, the first (drown up in Italian) reveals the relationship between the Wallachian Prince Serban Cantacuzino and the beleaguers. The second one, written in German, asserts, inter alia, the finding inside the former Ottoman camp of the wooden cross erected by Serban Cantacuzino as homage to the valour of the besieged people in Vienna. The last foreign manuscript, in fact a fragment in German, describes the military operations of the Austrian Army developed for some weeks in the North Moldavia after Vienna's relieving.
