Refugieri ale românilor din Dobrogea la stânga Dunării în timpul războiului Crimeii

  • Subiect: The wars which ravaged the Dobrudja territory starting from the second half of the 18th century led to greate material damages and massive losses of human lives. For the Romanian people of the region, as well as for the other Christian inhabitants of the province, the only possibility to save their lives during these wars to flee away to Wallachia and Moldavia. After peace was restored they used to return to their homes which they usually found burnend to ashes. This happened again, on a large scale, during the Crimeean War (1853-1856), when the Romanians retreat on the left bank of the Danube was determined especially by the robberies and masacres of the Bashi-bazoukery (irregular Turkish troops which included mainly soldiers which had belonged to the ancient Ottoman Army).
