Arhitectura infernului. Botticelli şi divina comedie

Subiect: The Occidental Medieval paradigm concerning the relationship between the cosmos and the human being was one of interdependence. Each anatomical part corresponded to a cosmical element. With the 16th century, the ptolemaic system was replaced by the copernican one. Before the issuing of Dante`s writings, the Inferno was little represented in painting, as opposed to the Paradise. In 1480, Sandro Botticelli was charged with illustrating the Divine Comedy. The paper analyses the representation of the Inferno, from the perspectives of Dante and Botticelli.
