  • Subiect: The paper show the evolution of the price of jewels i n the 16th century, an epoch during which life style changed essentially. The landlords, merchants or artisans began investing more and more in jewelries or expensive vessels made of precious metals. D u r i n g the 16t h century, the prices of jewels d i d not grow spectacularly because of the constancy of the mark (unit of calculation for value and weight). This stability of prices, as well as the small dimensions made of jewels excellent means of hoarding, easy to transport in rough times. Apart from the aesthetic qualities, the jewels represented a means to get prestige; therefore, they were more valuable than land, cattle or bonds.
