Gh. Munteanu Murgoci - fiu al plaiurilor buzoiene - biografia unui mare savant

  • Subiect: Gh. Munteanu Murgoci - a short biography of a great scholar Gheorghe Munteanu Murgoci was born in Brăila, on the 26th of July 1872. He spent his childhood in Bisoca, a locality in the mountain area of Buzau county. As a child, he studied in Braila, then he took the courses of the Bucharest University, the Science Section. He gets perfected in Vienna and Munich, where he gets his degree in mineralogy. He did research, he published and edited papers in the following sciences: geology, mineralogy, tectonics, speleology, petrology, agrogeology, cartography. He published over 200 scientific papers in Romanian, English, German and French. He married Agnes Kelly, of british origins, doctor in biology, who wrote and published a number of studies on Romanian ethnography in Great Britain. They had two children, a daughter, Helen and a son, Radu Maxwell. He died at the age of 53, in Bucharest in 1925.
