Desenul unui gladiator pe o cărămidă de la Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa

  • Subiect: A gladiator on a bick at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa The study presents a Roman brick of 0.54 X 0.53 X 0.05 m, discovered in 19082 at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. On one side of the brick there is an incision of an armed figure made in soft paste (fig. 1). The author discusses the possibility of identifying a certain type of gladiator in the drawing, using as analogies different types of monuments (fig. 2-6). He concludes that it is a heavily armed gladiator, maybe a secutor or an oplomachuR. The incision proves the popularity of gladiatorial fights at Sarmizegetusa and at.tests an unknown type of gladiator in the main town of Dacia.
