Pelaghia Roşia sau femeile din 1848 (nuvelă istorică) în manuscrisul lui Aurel Mureşianu

  • Subiect: Aurel Mureşianu (1847-1909), the author of the historical short story "Pelaghia Roşu, or women of 1848", is an outstanding member of Mureşianu family, a direct successor of the social-political and publicist activity of his father, Iacob Mureşianu. It is the first professional journalist in Transylvania and under his leadership, on 4 April 1884, “Gazette of Transylvania” became the first Romanian daily newspaper in Transylvania. The short story is a manuscript during his high school education and today can be found in the Mureşenilor Archive. It was read in the year 1863 at one meeting of „Company of literary studies at the junior secondary school education in Braşov for the cultivation of Romanian language and literature”. The company kept his weekly meetings in the parental home of the author (now „Museum Mureşenilor House” in Braşov). The short story describes an episode that evokes the strength of the resistance in the Apuseni Mountains led by Avram Iancu, when the entire Transylvania was occupied by troops of the Hungarian General Józef Bem. The main character of the short story is Pelaghia Roşu, the most famous heroine of the Revolution of 1848 in Transylvania. The action takes place in the village Mărişel (Cluj), which is attacked by an army of 1600 of Hungarians. Pelaghia Roşu, mother of the commander of the village inhabitants, take the lead. Women suits for men will impress by number, which will lead to the withdrawal of Hungarian troops
