Starea de spirit a armatei române în timpul evacuării teritoriului vremelnic cedat prin Dictatul de la Viena

  • Subiect: The State of Mind of the Romanian Army during the Diktat of Vienna The present paper continues the one appeared in the Acta Musei Porolissensis 7, 1885, p. 333-388. The paper deals mainly with the difficulties caused by the evacuation of the troops and administrative authorities from the territory (1st-14th September 19-10) (see documents no. 5-8), with the state of mind of the army during the retreat on the new border established by the Diktat; as a consequence the soldiers native from the lost territory left their units (the 16th and l7th infantry divisions) without :eave (documents no. 9-12), there were an attempt to disturb the evacuation orders and to fight against the Horthyst invaders (documents no. 2-5). The author thinks - in consensus with the contemporaneous documents - that the soldiers who left their units were not deserters, they acted under the effect of a general state of stupefaction, anger and indignation caused by the Diktat. As the units’ commanders explained, the main cause of this state of mind was the constant lack of information concerning the stage of Romanian-Hungarian relations, the hasty evacuation of the bases of the troops the contradictory orders received by the unit commanders (to allow the native from the territory to leave the units and at the same time, to evacuate the military material in time and with no losses).
