Subiect: ln the past fews years, the offer of the audio-visual media has experienced an
outburst in Romania. A multitude of channels - Romanian and foreign - are available
thanks to the cable broadcast companies. However, there is an important segment of public that does not identify itself with the offer on the market. On the other hand, there is an important production of documentary and anthropological films waiting to get to their consumers. Also, local filmmakers intersted in capturing and interpreting reality must be encouraged to use the anthropological documentary film as a means for cultural and cross-cultural understanding. The paper deals with some basic issues in documentary and anthropological filmmaking. After identifying the issues of visual representations in social sciences, the paper refers to some of the constraints on/and implications of narrative for the genre of the anthropological documentary film.
