  • Subiect: This article, which represents a preview fragment from the book of interviews which I have prepared in collaboration with Mr. Mircea Nasta, evokes one of the remarkable feminine personalities of interwar Romania: Adina Woroniecka. Born Olmazu, Adina became famous in Romania through her marriages, of which that with politician Take Ionescu earned her national recognition and a special position in the society of the time. Her marriage with Polish prince Jan Korybut Woroniecki re-launched Adina Woroniecka in the modern aristocratic elite of the interwar epoch. Distinguished, refined and educated, Adina Woroniecka built in Bucharest two houses representative for her status and for the interwar architecture of Bucharest: “the small palace” on Atena Street and the house on Kiseleff Street, both designed by architect Alexandru Zaharia. The interior decoration of these urban residences – which is described in detail by Mr. Mircea Nasta – can presently be admired only in the contemporary photographs taken by architect Alexandru Petit, which are now being published for the first time. These photos bear witness of an aristocratic way of living and dwelling which disappeared once the communist regime was installed in Romania.
