Imaginea oraşului în manuscrisele de cărţi populare româneşti

  • Subiect: This paper deals with a historical interpretation of lay texts, paying attention on the image of the city in the manuscripts of Romanian Folk Books in Transylvania during the Eighteenth century and the beginning of the Nineteenth century. The author had in mind two categories of texts: the knight novel (Alexandria and The History of Troada) and the apocalypse literature (Semnele venirii lui Antihrist). On this respect, the study managed to reconstitute four models concerning the image of the city: as a fortress, the model of the fortress as a woman, the wonderful city and the city having a "double image". The image of the city has a double significance: one at the first level, viewed as an imaginary travel of the reader in real / unreal places and the other at the second level, in profoundness dealing with the readers accommodation to the realities of urban life.
