Subiect: The present study is the first synthesis in the literature of Romania which analyses the evolution in times past of the village communities, cnezates and principates and the "countries" in the basins of Abrud and Arieş. The author surveys the viewpoints existing until that date related to these aspects, amending the untrue ones and completing the list with other new aspects. Based on a rich interdisciplinary documentation, the author proves that the area in question, in spite of its relative geographical isolation, organically entered on the historical - political coordinates of the evolution of Transylvania.
