Despărţământul Haţeg al Astrei (1869-1919)

Subiect: Astra’s founders understood the necessity of this institution with scientific authority and visibly acted in the direction of forming a national culture by means of cultivating the Romanian language, historical research, emphasizing the value of documents and promoting people’s progress in all the domains of social life. The purpose of this study is to trace the progress of the Haţeg department within Astra, the extent to which it accomplished the main objective of the association, namely the advancement of the Romanian people’s literature and culture. Through its general assemblies in the Hunedoara departments, and not only, it has organized cultural events in order to stimulate economic progress, education and arts, but also to enhance the knowledge of peasants, workers, intellectuals in cities and villages. Through all its accomplishments, it has contributed to maintaining our unity as a people so December 1st 1918 was declared Astra’s day.
