  • Subiect: Summary: In 1185, after almost two centuries of Byzantine domination over the Balcans, takes place the uprising of Romanians and Bulgarians in the Haemus Mountains, which will lay the foundations of the Tsardom of Tâmovo, lead by the Romanian brothers Petru, Asan and Ioniţă. In 1197, leader of the Târnovo state becomes Ioniţă Caloian (1197-1207), a prominent personality of the Balcanic Romanians of the time. He will try to assert the Romanian/Bulgarian State on an international level, through its acknowledgement by the Byzantine Empire, Papacy and the Hungarian Kingdom. In order to fulfill his gaal, he will fight the Bzyantines and Latin knights of the Fourth Crusade alike and will obtain, in exhange for the Church submission to the Holy See, Pope's Innocent III acknowledgement ofthe Romanian-Bulgarian state.
